CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent Finnish organisation that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mediation. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, we have since grown to be a leader in the field of international peace making.

CMI has worked to contribute to peaceful futures in Eurasia for over a decade, in conflicts where mediation efforts require persistent and complementary action. We support ongoing peace processes in the region by engaging with national, regional and international stakeholders, both state and non-state actors, including regional and international organizations such as the European Union and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. CMI’s added value in Eurasia is based on our regional experience and extensive networks, a commitment to long-term engagement and our organisational reputation and fundamental principle as honest broker, combined with our Finnish background.

CMI is seeking an experienced professional to lead its programme in the Eurasia region.

The Head will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and implementation of CMI’s work in the region in line with CMI strategy
  • Managing project teams in the region and ensuring efficient and responsible use of resources in line with CMI policies
  • Representing CMI in the region and developing networks and partnerships
  • Conceptualizing new approaches and fundraising for Eurasia programme portfolio
  • Developing CMI as member of the Management Team

A successful candidate is expected to:

  • Commit to CMI values and principles of neutrality
  • Be motivated to improve the practice of peace-making in the Eurasia region and achieve results in a highly complex political environment
  • Have an understanding and practical knowledge of the region, Post-Soviet dynamics and politics, relevant peace processes and related diplomatic efforts
  • Have extensive skills and practical experience in international dialogue and mediation processes
  • Have excellent networks with skills in building and managing relationships with local, regional and international organizations
  • Be able to lead a multi-cultural team of professionals who are based in different locations and work under pressure and with tight timelines
  • Have fluent written and spoken skills in English, knowledge of Russian is an asset
  • Have a university degree from a relevant field
  • Having a track record in fundraising is an asset

The Head will report to the Chief Programme Officer. The position is based in Helsinki or Brussels and requires frequent travel.
