Europe wants to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 in accordance with the Paris Agreement. This requires deep economic and societal transformations, engaging all sectors of the economy and society. The European Commission wants to ensure a fair and just transition where nobody and no region in Europe is left behind. Monitoring of wellbeing in a broad sense (Beyond-GDP monitoring) could play a role in following the objectives of the transition to climate neutrality.

In this special session we will:

  • Explore the role B-GDP indicators could play in monitoring of social and economic aspects of the transformation towards a climate neutral and circular society;
  • Discuss the benefits of this approach for policy making;
  • Inspire the discussion in the coming Conference “Beyond Growth - Indicators and Politics for People and Planet” in general, and more specifically to generate ideas on the crossover between themes 1 and 3 (1. Equality of Income, Wealth and Opportunities; 3. Transition to Carbon Neutral Circular Economy);
  • Work towards shared recommendations of the session for policy making that can be taken up in the thematic sessions of the conference and in policy in general;
