For who?

This Hackathon is meant for anyone interested in improving the skills to work with the implementation and acceleration of  Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030). 

What is a hackathon?

Hackathon is an innovation competition where teams look for solutions to one or more challenges in a short time. Hackathon often combines multi-disciplinary and one-time team collaboration. Solutions are usually produced during a hackathon and participants receive sperring to promote the idea.

How does it work?

The Hackathon is a three-day event. There are limited number of seats available. You can join the event online or physically in Tehdassaari, Nokia (Finland). The Hackathon participants are divided into groups to work on the key topic of Increasing climate resilience and disaster risk reduction in Tanzania. The participants try to find a solution to a dilemma regarding the key topic. Each team has three days to do research and to try to find an innovative solution which is then presented to all participants, mentors and judges. The teams will have mentors and supporting resource persons throughout the three-day event who guide and give feedback to the teams. The teams will present their solutions on the last day.

Prize

The judges will choose TOP 3 best teams. All participants will get a digital diploma. The winner team will get a special prize.

Registration

Registration to the hackathon is done in Google forms. Please note that there will be a pre-assignment sent to all the registered individuals that is a part of the selection process to be a participant in the hackathon.

What happens after the registration?

Due to limited seats we will have a pre-assignment for all the registered participants. Participants will be handpicked based on the quality of their their pre-assignment. The pre-assignment consists of questions that the participants must hand in by 15.9.2022 (extended deadline). After the evaluation of the pre-assignments, we will inform you personally via email if you have been chosen to join the hackathon in September 2022! Hybrid event

Cireco Finland Ltd is organizing a parallel Hackathon as a hybrid event at Nokia's Tehdassaari and remotely online. At Tehdassaari, participants will develop their ideas in the historical factory surroundings where the Nokia company was founded. At the Hackathon, you will be contributing to a more sustainable future for Tanzania, networking and learning new things.

Unfortunately, the event space is not accessible for example by wheelchair. Safety and hygiene requirements will be taken into account in Tehdassaari in accordance with the current COVID-19 situation.

Tehdassaari address:

Souranderintie 2, 37100 Nokia. You can travel to Tehdassaari by bus, train, or car. Please prefer public transport or carpooling.

By bus

From Tampere city centre, you can get to Tehdassaari by buses 70A and 70B. The nearest bus stop (Kumitehdas) is 350 metres away.

By train

You can also get to Nokia by train. The distance from the Nokia railway station to Tehdassaari is one km.

By car

If you arrive by car, parking is available near the bridge leading to the island, next to the gatekeeper's house.

Travel, accommodation, and meals

Accommodation and travel for the Hackathon is self-paid. There will be free snacks, drinks, coffee, and tea available on site in Tehdassaari. You can also bring your own food. Refrigerators and a microwave are available on site.
